New Caledonia’s lagoon, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is an extraordinary setting. Aquatic and underwater photography lets me create portraits that simply cannot be made on land: water changes the light, the movement and the way fabric comes alive.
A different approach to portraiture
Underwater, everything becomes slower and more fluid. Hair floats, dresses unfurl, expressions soften. It is a style that suits portraits, fashion, couples and anyone who wants a truly original image.
How does a session work?
The exact running order depends on each project, but the steps are often the same. We first talk about the idea and the mood you are after, then choose the location and date according to the weather and sea conditions. The session itself takes place in the water, and we take our time to find the right poses before you choose your favourite images.
Preparing well
It is important to feel comfortable in the water. As for clothing, long, light fabrics create beautiful movement. Think about a reef-safe sunscreen that respects the lagoon and, if possible, a light meal before the session. Bring something to warm up in and to dry off with.
The weather and the sea decide
Visibility depends on the wind, the tide and the weather over the previous days. A session may therefore be moved to get better conditions: that is the price of beautifully clear water.
