Your dog is part of the family and deserves beautiful portraits. Photographing an animal takes patience, complicity and a little preparation. Here are some tips for a successful session.
A walk before the session
A dog that has used up its energy is calmer and more attentive. Walk it or play with it before the session, then give it time to discover the place.
A place it knows or loves
A park, a beach or your garden: what matters is that the dog feels at ease there. Avoid places that are too noisy or too crowded, which distract it.
Treats, toys and complicity
Bring its favourite treats and a toy to catch its attention. Your presence is essential: you are the one who will get the looks and expressions.
Safety first
Keep it on a lead or in a secure area depending on the location, and watch for other animals or traffic. Safety comes before the photo.
Choose a cool time of day
Under the Nouméa sun, a session late in the afternoon or early in the morning is more pleasant for your dog, who copes badly with heat. Bring water and take breaks.
Pictures with you too
Portraits with the owner or the family are often the most moving: the bond between human and animal shows in the eyes and the gestures.
