Getting married in New Caledonia means enjoying a unique setting. The season and venue you choose will directly affect your guests’ comfort and your photos. A few pointers to help you decide.

The season: heat, rain and light

As a general rule, the hot and humid season, from about November to April, is more exposed to heavy rain and tropical depressions. The cooler season, around June to August, often brings drier weather and softer light, but cooler evenings and an earlier sunset. In both cases, plan a rainy-day option and keep an eye on the forecast.

The ceremony venue

Church, town hall, garden, seaside: each place brings a different atmosphere. For the photos, think about the light (avoid outdoor ceremonies at midday), space for group photos and a sheltered spot in case of rain.

The islands: a dream that needs planning

A wedding on Île des Pins, for example, offers exceptional settings but takes organisation: transport, accommodation, ferry and flight times. Tell your photographer well in advance so that they can plan with you.

Timing the portraits

Couple portraits look best in soft light, early in the morning or late in the afternoon. Check the sunset time on your chosen date and adjust the running order of the day accordingly.
